SRU Column move
Winter in Alberta is the season for super loads transport. ENTREC Transportation Service's feature project is an SRU column move for Kearl Lake, located north of Fort McMurray, Alberta.
The Challenge: Transporting a 382,000 kg Payload
Along with the scope of providing the transportation for various modules and vessels, ENTREC was responsible for the transportation of a large SRU Column in January 2011. A route study commenced in 2010, with the client seeking the ENTREC team's expertise to determine the feasibility of transporting a 382,000 kilogram (842,000 lbs.) payload to the project site. ENTREC met the challenge and found a solution. ENTREC’s total gross weight inclusive of specialized hauling equipment amounted to a total weight of 787,000 kilograms (1,730,000 lbs.).
Hauling Requirements & ENTREC Engineering Support
ENTREC would be required to satisfy a maximum transportation gross weight of 404 Tonnes with a tolerance of 2000 kg and under the supervision of third party bridge engineers, ENTREC utilized its specialized hydraulic platform trailers to meet the tight tolerance. At stake was the feasiblity of transporting this vessel that cost millions to develop and develop with stringent material requirements involving A-53 material specifications specially ordered from overseas.
ENTREC utilized its specialized hydraulic platform trailers to meet the demands of this heavy oversized load. ENTREEC supported this vessel on two ten line four file hydraulic platform Goldhofer trailer units, consisting of three hundred and twenty two wheels. In addition to utilizing three trucks up front to pull the load, four trucks assisted on moving this vessel down the road from the rear, for a total of seven prime movers. The overall dimensions of the transport unit inclusive of payload with all trucks included was 135 metres (442 ft.) long, 9 metres (29 ft.) wide and 11.5 metres (38 ft.) high.
ENTREC was responsible for designing the support saddles, bolsters and spreader steel for the support of this vessel. The total crew involved sixteen personnel, which included prime mover operators, trailer operators, supervisors and escort vehicles non inclusive of police or wire lifting crews. The load carried at thirty eight feet high and was twenty nine feet wide.
